(SANTA ANA, Calif.) — In an alleged crime reminiscent of the case in Cleveland where a man held three women hostage for a decade, a Bell Gardens, California, man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he held a woman hostage for ten years, beginning when she was 15.

According to Santa Ana police, Isidro Garcia, 41, abducted his victim in 2004 and later forced her to get married. The pair had a child in 2012, according to authorities.

Garcia was apparently the live-in boyfriend of the alleged victim’s mother who suspected he was sexually abusing her daughter right before the two vanished in August 2004.

Police finally got a break when they say the alleged victim contacted her sister on Facebook last Tuesday to tell her that Garcia had been keeping her hostage.

Over the years, police say, Garcia and the victim moved to different locations and worked together at a nighttime cleaning service so that he could keep an eye on her.

Garcia has been charged with “suspicion of kidnapping for rape, lewd acts with a minor and false imprisonment,” according to police. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Last year, three women escaped in Cleveland after a decade of imprisonment and sexual abuse at the hands of former school bus driver Ariel Castro, who was tried and convicted for their kidnappings and later committed suicide in prison.
