(LOS ANGELES) — Firefighters are battling to save homes as wildfires and heat blanket Southern California.

Thousands of homes have been evacuated in San Diego County as the fires continue to burn.

The blaze erupted Tuesday morning, fueled by soaring temperatures and canyons full of dry brush from months of drought.

According to KGTV, in Carlsbad, 3,000 homes are without power.

A resident in Carlsbad witnessed, “flames like 30-, 40-feet in the air. The heat was so intense, we couldn’t even stand back there any longer.”

Officials say 11,627 calls went out to houses, businesses, and cell phones in Carlsbad to order an evacuation.

Texas is also facing wildfire evacuations. Hundreds of people have been evacuated after a wildfire burned more than 90 homes.
