(BRENTWOOD, N.H.) — A police officer was killed after responding to a domestic dispute at a New Hampshire home Monday.
Police Officer Steve Arkell, 48, was fatally shot after responding to a Brentwood home for a domestic dispute call.
The house exploded and was engulfed in flames as more police responded to the shooting.
Officials say the shooter, 47-year-old Michael Nolan, was killed by the fire or explosion.
The house is located in a development called Mill Pond Crossing, a retirement community, police said.
Neighboring houses were evacuated, and firefighters initially stayed away from the blaze because of the suspected shooting.
Later Monday night, some residents were allowed to return home.
The investigation is ongoing. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
