(BRENTWOOD, N.H.) — A New Hampshire house exploded and was engulfed in flames as police were responding to a shooting incident there Monday, state police told ABC News.

It was unclear what caused the explosion at the Brentwood house, located in a development called Mill Pond Crossing, a retirement community, police said.

A team from state Police SWAT was on the scene, and police said they believe someone inside the house was shooting.

Neighboring houses were evacuated, and firefighters initially stayed away from the blaze because of the suspected shooting, police said.
