(DOSWELL, Va.) — Authorities found the remains of the third person who was on board the the hot air balloon that crashed during the Mid-Atlantic Balloon Festival on Friday.
The body was found about 11 a.m. Sunday roughly 100 yards north of where the second body was located a day before. Search crews are still looking for the wreckage site in Virginia.
On Saturday, the University of Richmond confirmed two athletics department staffers were passengers onboard the balloon, which crashed into a power line, setting it ablaze.
Associate head coach Ginny Doyle and director of basketball operations Natalie Lewis were in the balloon, according to the school’s statement. Family members identified the pilot as Daniel Kirk.
Doyle, 44, was a former Richmond player who had been a member of the coaching staff for 16 seasons.
Lewis graduated from Richmond in 2011 and was in her third year as director of basketball operations.
