(ORLAND, Calif.) — At least nine are dead and 32 other people are injured after a fiery head-on collision between a FedEx truck and a charter bus on Interstate 5 north of Highway 32 in northern California.
California Highway Patrol said, according to ABC affiliate KRCR-TV, the crash occurred Thursday afternoon, when the driver of the semi-truck heading southbound crossed the center divider and crashed into the bus, which was heading north. Both the truck and the bus were engulfed in flames, killing seven bus passengers as well as the drivers of both vehicles.
The 46 passengers on the bus were reportedly high school students from southern California traveling upstate to visit colleges.
Emergency crews are on the scene and all lanes of I-5 have been shut down.
