(SALT LAKE CITY) — A teenage boy allegedly found American Indian remains while digging a hole in his Salt Lake City backyard.
Ali Erturk, 14, was digging away at the soil in his father’s backyard to make a trout pond when he came across the remains of an American Indian.
Experts from the Utah Department of Heritage and Arts confirmed the bones as those of a person who lived about 1,000 years ago. A forensic anthropologist will continue to analyze the remains.
The department typically receives about six reports of ancient remains statewide each year.
