(MAUI, Hawaii) — Hawaiian police are searching for a missing pregnant woman, who disappeared after giving her ex-boyfriend a lift home nearly a week ago.

The only signs of Carly Scott, 26, since last Sunday were the appearance of her dog, who showed up at a market Monday 40 miles from where she had been last seen, and the discovery of her burned out SUV in a remote area of Maui.

According to the Maui police department the 1997 Toyota 4Runner was verified as Scott’s and found near a remote surfing spot on the island.

Police also said a civilian search-party member found a clue that was sent to be analyzed, but no further information was given.

Scott, called “Charli” by family and friends, went missing Sunday after driving to pick up her ex-boyfriend who said he was having car trouble. Scott had her dog with her at the time, police said.

“I think that the hardest thing as me as her mother to live with, is that she’s still out there waiting for us to find her,” Scott’s mother Kimberlyn Scott told reporters.

Scott’s ex-boyfriend Steven Capobianco told Hawaii News Now he had been questioned by police. He said Scott had picked him up and drove him dozens of miles to the town of Keane on a remote two-lane highway to fix his truck. He said later she was then driving behind him in a different car.

He eventually lost sight of her headlights and assumed she got home safely.

“I sent her a text that said, ‘thank you,’ but I figured she was working, that’s why she didn’t get back to me right away,” Capobianco told the news station. “It wasn’t until the cops showed up at my house at 5:30 in the morning the next day that I realized something was wrong.”

Capobianco said he had taken a lie detector test at the police department and they told him he failed, but did not ask to take it again. He has not been charged or listed as a suspect in Scott’s disappearance.

“I mean, it’s undeniable that I’m probably the prime suspect, so they’re not going to tell me details,” Capobianco said.
