(FLUSHING, N.Y.) — A terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York City was evacuated for a short time Tuesday after a baggage handler became concerned over a package that seemed “warm.”
Police were called and Terminal C was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. The bag, which had not yet been loaded onto a plane, was moved to a remote location for inspection and was later deemed safe.
In a statement, Delta Air Lines said flight 5208 from New York to Richmond, Va., was delayed by approximately two hours as officials with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey investigated the scare.
“The bag and passenger who checked the bag were removed from the flight and the flight has since departed,” the statement said.
During the evacuation, aerial video showed what appeared to be hundreds of passengers waiting outside the terminal.
