Kelly Clarkson is busy creating a tiny human right now — she’s expecting a baby girl with husband Brandon Blackstock — but she’s also creating new music, which it now appears we’ll get to hear before 2014 is over.
When asked about her recording plans by a fan on Twitter, Kelly replied, “I am writing now & gonna be recording soon. We’re aiming to release my next album at the end of this year :).” Of course, the baby will be “released” before that.
Last year, Kelly put out the best-selling Christmas disc Wrapped in Red. In 2012, she put out a greatest hits album that produced the Vince Gill collaboration, “Don’t Rush.” Her last album of new non-holiday material was the hit-packed smash Stronger, which came out in late 2011.
As for what the new album will sound like, the fan asked Kelly if it would be country or pop, but she didn’t specify. Not long ago, one of Kelly’s producers, Claude Kelly, told ABC News Radio that he’s been writing material for her that could go either way, depending on how Kelly sings it.
“I’ve written some stuff [for her] that’s very, very pop, like, straight down the middle pop, and she adds all the bells and whistles to it,” Claude told ABC News Radio. “Kelly is the kinda person where her voice kinda dictates anything, so it can go anywhere from a little country-leaning to a little dance-leaning, so I think she’s taking a bit of everything and making it her own with her voice.”
Claude, who co-wrote and co-produced Kelly’s hit “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and has also worked with Bruno Mars, Jessie J, Daughtry, Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston, says no matter what genre of music she’s singing, one thing stays constant: Kelly’s in charge.
“She has full, complete say in everything that happens,” he explains. “She has power now. She knows what she’s doing.”
