An Ohio state senator has introduced a bill seeking to honor Rascal Flatts as the state’s official country music group. Band members Jay DeMarcus and Gary LeVox hail from Ohio and have made it a point to get back to their home state for concerts and charity work.

According to Youngstown’s The Vindicator, Senator Jim Hughes of Columbus told the Ohio State Oversight and Reform Committee, “As fellow Buckeyes, I believe they are God-fearing, hardworking, honest men who positively represent our state and all Ohioans.”

However, other senators says Ohio-raised country stars like Dwight Yoakam and Johnny Paycheck deserve to be honored just as much as Rascal Flatts. We’ll keep you posted on the bill’s progress.
