PITTSBORO–Three candidates who want to fill the unexpired term of former State Representative Deb McManus were on the hot seat Saturday as the first interviews were held at the historic courthouse in Pittsboro. The 54th district comprises all of Chatham and a portion of Lee County. Chatham democrat Attorney Cathy Russell, former school board chair, and former CCCC Trustee George Lucier, and Lee County’s only candidate, Attorney Robert Reives, II, fielded question from a four member panel after giving a 3 minute platform. One candidate was absent. The final interview is scheduled Friday, January 24 at 5:30. Some are crying foul, however, after learning that anyone can enter the race until the gavel falls on January 24.
