Leave it to Kelly Clarkson: she decides to release her first-ever Christmas album, and it makes history.

According to Yahoo! Chart Watch, Kelly’s holiday collection, Wrapped in Red, is now officially the year’s best-selling Christmas collection, narrowly edging out Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas, from the Duck Dynasty clan.  As such, this marks the first time in the Soundscan era — that’s since 1991, when Nielsen Soundscan started tracking digital sales — that an American female artist has had the year’s top Christmas album.

Kelly’s album sold 763,000 copies, while the Robertsons’ disc managed 745,000 copies. Both albums featured appearances from country stars, too. Reba, Trisha Yearwood and Ronnie Dunn contributed vocals to Kelly’s project, while Duck the Halls included appearances from Luke Bryan, George Strait, Josh Turner and Alison Krauss.
