(NEW YORK) — The cold weather is slowing travel in the New York City area.

A ground stop is in effect at John F. Kennedy International Airport due to icy conditions Sunday morning.

The closure follows a Delta plane skidding off a JFK runway and into a snow bank Sunday morning. According to the Port Authority, the plane had landed safely and no injuries were reported.

According to the Port Authority, JFK is temporarily closed so crews can salt and sand the runways. The airport plans to re-open at 11:30 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration reports.
