(NEW YORK) — He’s no Picasso or Warhol, but George Zimmerman still managed to get six figures for a piece of his original artwork.
Zimmerman’s painting of a blue American flag adorned with words from the Pledge of Allegiance fetched $100,099.99 on eBay. Bidding, which ended on Saturday, started at $0.99.
The former Florida neighborhood watch captain will presumably use the money from the auction to help pay off some of the $2 million in legal fees he incurred when he was on trial for the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman was acquitted last August but has since been involved in a number of scrapes with the law involving domestic disturbances and speeding tickets.
Meanwhile, the new owner of Zimmerman’s painting, who remains anonymous, will have his piece delivered personally by the artist as long as the winner lives in the Lower 48.
