(SHORT HILLS, N.J.) — A scary scene at a New Jersey shopping mall Sunday night.  Authorities say a 30-year-old man was shot during a carjacking in the parking garage of the Short Hills Mall, an upscale mall about 23 miles west of New York City.

ABC News affiliate WABC-TV reports a couple had just finished holiday shopping around 8:30 p.m. and was headed to their car in the garage.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray told reporters Sunday night that witnesses saw the man open the door for his wife, and as he got to the driver’s side, he was approached by two males and was shot before he entered his vehicle.

The victim was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where he later died.

The victim’s wife reportedly was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

WABC reported the mall was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown was lifted just before 10 p.m.  Authorities say there was no immediate threat to anyone inside the mall.

Authorities say the two suspects fled the scene driving the victim’s vehicle, a 2012 silver Range Rover with a New Jersey license plate.  Local police set up roadblocks in an effort to find the suspects.

Just five weeks ago, the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, N.J., was placed on lockdown for hours after a man opened fire inside the mall.  He was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  No one else was hurt.
