(NEW YORK) — Residents in almost two dozen states were forced to dig out Sunday morning after snow blanketed almost 1,000 miles of the U.S., from Missouri to Maine.

Accumulations measured between an inch and more than a foot, creating hazardous traveling conditions and grounding more than 1200 flights. Travelers are still dealing with residual delays from the widespread snow and freezing rain.
