Carrie Underwood fans get their most significant preview yet of the country superstar rehearsing to play Maria von Trapp in the live production of The Sound of Music, thanks to a series of YouTube videos just released by NBC.

The clips offer snippets of many of the familiar songs from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” the title song, and “Edelweiss,” performed with True Blood star Stephen Moyer, who plays Captain von Trapp.

“Carrie’s great. She obviously sings beautifully, we know that,” he says. “But she’s doing a great job of bringing this character to life.”

The American Idol winner says she believes she’s actually much like Maria in real life. “Maria and I actually share a lot in common,” she reflects. “She’s a very faithful woman, which I feel like I am as well. She loves singing, she just loved being free.”

The Sound of Music airs live December 5, “in front of the entire universe,” in Carrie’s words, at 8 p.m. ET.
