The Band Perry‘s Kimberly Perry will tie the knot with her fiancé, Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia, next summer. According to The Tennessean, the couple got engaged Monday night at the Perry family home in Greeneville, TN, and her family was on hand when she said yes.
It all started when Kimberly walked out to join the family for dinner and found them standing with J.P. under a big oak tree on the property. Kimberly had said she wanted to be proposed to under that tree wearing her favorite pink dress so Kimberly’s mother sent her back in the house to put on the dress. The singer also found a letter from her family beside the pink dress along with a bracelet her grandfather had given her grandmother decades ago when they started dating.
Once Kimberly came back out of the house, J.P. was on the front porch on bended knee presenting her with an emerald cut diamond engagement ring they had designed by a friend in Chicago.
“It was perfect,” Kimberly says.
Kimberly first met J.P. backstage at a show in Plant City, FL in February 2012. He’d seen her in The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” video and felt an instant attraction. After attending a few Band Perry shows, J.P. got Kimberly’s phone number at that Florida show and they eventually started dating. He lives in Nashville during the off season.
This relationship marks the first time Kimberly’s brothers Reid and Neil Perry have approved of their sister’s boyfriend. She adds that she feels emotionally and spiritually connected to J.P. even when their hectic work schedules keep them apart.
“I’ve never felt that with anyone before,” Kimberly says. “He’s just a really gentle soul. He balances me for sure.”
