(YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif.) — Officials say progress is being made on one of the biggest wildfires burning in the West.

Blaine County fire spokesperson Bronwyn Nickel said Wednesday that higher humidity levels are leading crews closer to containing the Beaver Creak wildfire in Idaho.

“We do feel pretty optimistic,” Nickel said.

But crews can’t say the same about the fast-growing wildfire threatening Yosemite National Park, one of America’s most pristine national treasures.
On Wednesday a wall of flames spanning 25 square miles spread across one side of the park, while fire crews attempted to battle the blaze from the air.

Campers and residents of the rural region began evacuations Wednesday as the fire endangered about 2,000 homes and outbuildings near the park.
