(WASHINGTON) — The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial will be completed in time for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington after a contract dispute threatened to stall construction work.

“We moved heaven and earth,” Carol Johnson a spokeswoman for the National Park Service told ABC News. “It will be done within a few days.”

The dispute began when contractors would not allow artist Lei Yixin, who designed the MLK memorial, to sandblast the sculpture to correct coloring.  The contractors feared there was insurance liability, Johnson said.

“So we went to plan B,” Johnson said. “Our historic preservation training center would do the job under the guidance of Master Lei.”

Lei is “very happy with the solution,” according to Johnson.

“We have been working like crazy to solve the problem and we are happy with the outcome,” she added.
