Kacey Musgraves had been floating around the Nashville scene for a few years before she decided to go with the record deal that eventually led to her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park. A lot of labels came calling, but Kacey turned down their offers knowing she had to find her own way.
“It wasn’t that people were trying to push me into anything,” Kacey tells CMA Close Up. “It was more that the material was OK but it didn’t really come from a different point of view. It was like, ‘Oh, this could be a hit. Let’s do this.’ I had the sense to be patient with all that, because I thought that if I’ve got one shot to say something, it better mean something.”
Kacey hit the top 10 on the country chart with that first shot, her lead single “Merry Go ‘Round.” She wraps up her spot on Kenny Chesney‘s No Shoes Nation tour August 24 outside Boston at Gillette Stadium.
