The stars will be out in full force for the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock special, airing Monday night on ABC. Little Big Town hosts the three-hour show featuring performances from Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Hunter Hayes and Miranda Lambert, among others.
Though Taylor Swift is one of the biggest music stars on the planet these days, she will be heavily featured on the CMA Music Festival special too. This event, which takes place over four days in June at LP Field in Nashville, is something of a homecoming for Taylor and country fans alike. She’s grateful to those fans for allowing her to branch out into more pop sounds on her latest album, Red.
Says Taylor, “I think it’s never felt better to be on that stadium stage performing knowing that everyone’s been so welcoming of change.”
Since those fans are so faithful, Taylor worked hard to come up with something extra special for her CMA Music Festival performance.
She adds, “You want to make sure that everything you do for CMA Fest is catered directly to the fans, and that’s something that we’ve tried to do for this show.”
Show hosts Little Big Town teamed up with Sheryl Crow for one of the festival’s exciting collaborations — a mashup of their hit “Pontoon” and Sheryl’s “Soak Up the Sun.”
The group’s Kimberly Schlapman says, “That was a dream come true for us. We’ve always been fans of hers, and she’s welcome on our stage anytime.”
LBT had a blast roaming around the festival all four days shooting different spots for the ABC special. Band member Karen Fairchild would like to switch things up a little more in the wardrobe department if they return as hosts next year, though.
“I’d like to change clothes every night,” Karen explains. “You know, ’cause we have to wear the same thing for continuity. But ABC, could we please not be continuous.”
In addition to superstars like Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band and Lady Antebellum, newcomers such as Kacey Musgraves will get a chance to shine on the CMA Music Festival special.
Kacey tells ABC News Radio, “The band and I have something pretty cool planned, and I’m just excited to be a part of it.”
Kip Moore, Eric Church, The Band Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley and Jake Owen round out the talent lineup.
The cast of Duck Dynasty and stars from ABC’s Nashville will also appear on the special along with pop/rock stars Jason Mraz, Lenny Kravitz and Kid Rock.
CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock airs Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
