(DALLAS) — Former President George W. Bush had heart surgery on Tuesday after a blocked artery was discovered in his heart.
According to a statement from his office, Bush was having an annual physical examination in Dallas Monday when doctors found the blockage. They recommended the former president have a stent placed to open the blocked artery.
Bush, 67, agreed and had the procedure done Tuesday morning at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. It was performed successfully and without complication, the statement said.
“President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday,” according to his office.
“He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him. He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups,” the statement concluded.
