(WASHINGTON) — Federal safety investigators have released new information about the hard landing of a Southwest jet in New York.
Southwest 345 from Nashville landed at LaGuardia Airport on Monday nose gear first, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
The front wheels are supposed to touch down after the rear wheels because the nose gear isn’t meant to take a plane’s weight.
The nose gear of the Boeing 737 collapsed violently into the body of the plane, damaging some of the electronics. The jet skidded to a stop 19 seconds after landing about 2,000 feet down the runway, the NTSB said.
