Kellie Pickler brought the video of her wedding to songwriter Kyle Jacobs into the studio while recording her latest single, “Someone Somewhere Tonight.” The session took place while Kellie was busy competing on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars earlier this year.

She tells Rolling Stone, “We didn’t see each other a lot when I was on the show, so I got even more emotional singing, because I missed him.”

Of course, Kellie went on to win Dancing with the Stars, and that victory has heightened anticipation for her upcoming studio album. Instead of chasing current musical trends, Kellie plans to continue making music that honestly reflects her life. That’s what she did with her last album, 100 Proof, which was a critical, but not a commercial, success.

“It’s my favorite album I’ve ever done because I went into the studio and said what I wanted to say and made a more traditional record,” Kellie says of 100 Proof. “Had I gone in and made the same old sh*t, then Rolling Stone and different music critics wouldn’t have picked it as one of the best albums of 2012. That showed me that I made the right call. It was tough, but I’m glad I stood up for myself.”

Kellie is still finalizing the track listing for her next album. The steamy video for “Someone Somewhere Tonight,” featuring her Dancing with the Stars partner Derek Hough, was released a few weeks ago.
