(HOUSTON) — Southern Baptists says they’ll welcome anyone who wants to leave the Boy Scouts of America because of the scouting organization’s policy change to accept openly gay youth members.
At its annual meeting in Houston Wednesday, the Southern Baptist Convention approved a resolution that condemns the Boy Scouts for allowing gay youths.
All former Boy Scouts who left the scouting organization because of its new acceptance of gays were invited to become part of a Southern Baptist youth group.
Ironically, these youth groups don’t have any stipulations that exclude homosexuals, noted the Rev. Charlie Dale of Indian Springs First Baptist Church in Indian Springs, Ala.
Dale, who disagreed with the resolution, remarked, “I don’t think we should hold the Boy Scouts to a standard we would not put on our own churches. Such a boy needs our love so let’s bring him in and show him what real biblical love is all about.”
However, the reverend was in the minority, especially among those Southern Baptists who wanted to cut all connections with the Boy Scouts.
