As Florida Georgia Line enjoys the success of their collaboration with Nelly, the duo is walking a path that was paved by the rapper’s earlier work with Tim McGraw.

For Nelly, “Cruise” was actually quite different than recording “Over and Over” with the country superstar.

“Tim was already Tim McGraw, and I was already on my third album,” he tells CMT.com. “We were both stepping out of our element a little bit, and we didn’t have an idea of what the creation would be. We just knew that we were two people who love what we do. We went in and tried to make something work. And we were very fortunate that it turned out like it did.”

“Cruise” was the exact opposite, as Nelly worked with a relatively new artist, on a similar concept that was successful earlier. The “Hot in Herre” hitmaker says working with Florida Georgia Line actually takes him back to his initial success.

“I love their energy and their passion. And with them I get to relive my first walk through everything, you know? Like, everything excites them.”

Nelly confesses he can’t resist giving the duo some advice.

“I always tell them ‘Yo, enjoy these moments because everybody doesn’t get them.’”
