(HOUSTON) — Four firefighters were killed while battling a massive fire at a hotel in southwest Houston on Friday afternoon, and five others were injured.

Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing into the air as firefighters on ladder trucks tried to get the blaze under control.

“It was awful,” said witness Dave Luxemberg. “The roof was caving in, in different sections. It was pretty bad.”
