(WEST, Texas) — Explosions at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, have injured several firefighters and caused fires to rip through nearby homes and structures in the area.

Firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a structure fire at the plant when there was an explosion, destroying nearby homes and buildings. Soon after, a second explosion occurred.

As many as 10 buildings are reportedly on fire.  Police, firefighters and paramedics from across the region are headed into the town of West, just north of Waco, to assess the situation and treat what are described as many victims.

Officials at the scene say it is unclear whether an industrial accident triggered the blasts, or if they are related.
