(NEW YORK) — Dozens of homes were damaged in Arkansas and Missouri on Wednesday as a severe storm system in the area spun off possible tornadoes.
At least six possible tornadoes were reported — four in Arkansas and two in Missouri. No tornadoes have been confirmed; meteorologists from the National Weather Service still need to assess the damage before that can be done.
The worst hit area was Hazelwood, Mo., where preliminary reports indicated that 24 homes were damaged. Most of the damage was due to downed trees.
No major injuries have been reported there.
Elsewhere in Missouri, winds up to 101 mph produced a lot of damage in and around St. Louis County.
On Thursday, the severe weather will move eastward, bringing the biggest threat for tornadoes to New Orleans, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas.
