SANFORD–Its the consensus of the Lee County Board of Education to begin the quest for a new elementary school immediately. John Bonardi, chairman of the finance committee, noted during the regular meeting Monday evening that every elementary school in the county is at or near capacity which is also a safety issue. He said there are about 28 modular units scattered around the school sites. Committee member Mark Akinosha reiterated that it would be extremely hard to secure modular units. The new school would be built on land where the old Jonesboro school is located. It would be home to 650 students and would cost around $13.5 to build. The old school could be demolished at a cost of $350,000. The issue will be taken to the commissioners to begin dialogue.
