PITTSBORO– According to reports from the Chatham County Sheriff’s office, shortly after midnight Thursday, Corporal Paul Carroll attempted to stop an older model pickup for a revoked registration near the intersection of US 15-501 and Lystra Road.  The driver, later determined to be Claiborne Lewis Baker, 34 of Chapel Hill, failed to stop and began to travel at a high rate of speed to elude the officer.  He reached speeds of more than 115 mph and  attempted  to flee on foot after he stopped his vehicle.  He was charged with numerous offenses, and is also on federal probation for armed bank robbery.
