(NEW YORK) — Funeral services for Texas snowmobiler Caleb Moore, who died last week in a Colorado hospital after being severely injured in the 2013 Winter X Games, are scheduled for Thursday.

According to an obituary posted on the Pepper Family Funeral Home website, services are scheduled for 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wheeler, Texas, followed by burial at Wheeler Cemetery.

The family said in a statement that they will hold a private service this week for close friends and family.

Moore died on Jan. 31 after developing complications in his heart and brain from injuries he sustained during the Snowmobile Freestyle finals at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo., when his snowmobile flipped on top of him in a violent crash during competition. He was 25.

The Krum, Texas, native, who has four X Games medals, was completing a back-flip during the Jan. 24 event, when he came up short and the skis on his sled hit the landing, causing the 450-pound machine to flip end-over-end and come crashing down on top of him.

Moore was initially diagnosed with a concussion and rushed to Aspen Valley Hospital, but while being treated, doctors discovered bleeding around his heart. He was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., where he underwent emergency heart surgery and later developed a “secondary complication involving his brain,” according to the Moore family spokeswoman.

A coroner’s report said Moore was declared brain dead on Jan. 31 and that his organs would be donated.

This was the first competitor’s death as a result of injuries sustained during competition in the 18-year reign of the X Games, which is produced by ABC’s sister network ESPN.

Moore’s younger brother Colten Moore, 23, also competed and was injured in the Snowmobile Freestyle finals. He was taken to the hospital with a separated pelvis, but didn’t require surgery.

Fundraisers have been set up on behalf of the Moore family to help pay for medical bills.
