Blake Shelton‘s new single, “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” is now at country radio, and his new studio album will follow in the coming months. Recording the new project while fulfilling his role as a coach on NBC’s The Voice was a challenge, but Blake thinks the busy TV schedule actually helped him make a better album.

He tells Country Aircheck, “Not having as much time on the road to listen to songs over and over again, and completely overthink them — which I’ve been guilty of in the past — has helped.”

Blake started making quicker decisions on songs with his last album, Red River Blue, and has continued that process with the new album.  Says Blake, “If I love a song in the first two or three times, I just cut the damn thing.”

Blake will be back for The Voice‘s fourth season starting March 25 on NBC.
