Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” spends a ninth week on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart this week giving her the longest run at the top by a female in the chart’s history.

It should be noted that this new record was achieved because Billboard recently added digital downloads and streaming to the equation with radio airplay when determining Hot Country Songs chart positions.  “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” peaked at #13 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay tally.

Country Music Hall of Fame member Connie Smith previously held the record with her eight-week hit #1 hit “Once a Day” in 1964 back when the chart was determined by retail sales and radio airplay.  David Houston was the last person to spend nine weeks on Billboard‘s Country Songs chart in 1966 with “Almost Persuaded.”  The last person to spend more time at #1 was Buck Owens with his 16-week chart topper “Love’s Gonna Live Here” in 1963 and 1964.
