(NEW YORK) — Merriam-Webster is out with this year’s list of most looked-up words for 2012 — and we have the presidential election to thank for much of it.

The top two words, Merriam-Webster says, are “socialism” and “capitalism.”

Taking the honors for the most looked-up word in a single day is “malarkey,” after Vice President Joe Biden’s famous use of the word during the vice presidential debate in October.

Here is the list of Merriam-Webster’s most looked-up words of the year.

  1. socialism and capitalism
  2. touché
  3. bigot
  4. marriage
  5. democracy
  6. professionalism
  7. globalization
  8. malarkey
  9. schadenfreude
  10. meme
