SANFORD–Many Lee County residents frequent the Bread Basket and CUOC for food to feed their families. So many, infant, that the agencies are having a hard time keeping up with the numbers. With Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon, both agency directors are asking for help. Susan Rosenthal of the J. Fletcher Rosser Bread Basket said last Thanksgiving, 96 turkeys were cooked. She currently has 4 turkeys in the freezer. And, she needs fixins’. She said turkeys are needed by November 20. On the other end of town, Teresa Kelly of CUOC said she is not trying to provide turkeys and hams this year because the funding just isn’t there, however, if someone donates, she will give to the larger families. The largest family receiving food from CUOC is made up of 14.
