Scotty McCreery is back this week with a new holiday album, Christmas with Scotty McCreery. It’s his first release since last year’s debut project, Clear as Day, which has been certified platinum. Scotty had a very limited amount of time to work on that first album due to his crazy American Idol schedule, so the Christmas album offered him the opportunity to get creative in the studio.
He says, “I had more time to kind of sink into the songs, kinda think about how I wanted to sing them.”
Putting his own stamp on classics such as “O Holy Night” and “The First Noel” was a bit of a challenge for Scotty too.
Scotty describes the process saying, “Everybody’s heard ‘Jingle Bells’ before, but how are we going to do this one different, how are we going to make it Scotty’s, how are we going to make it mine.”
Scotty’s signature deep voice definitely allowed him to make these songs his own. He thinks fans will hear a lot of growth in his vocal style on Christmas with Scotty McCreery too.
“I still am learning a lot about myself and the artist I want to be, but I feel like I knew what I could do with my voice,” Scotty explains. “Just a more unique thing, and I think we showed that on this album.”
Christmas with Scotty McCreery also includes his take on “Santa Claus Is Back in Town” as a nod to Scotty’s hero Elvis Presley.
