Little Big Town bows at #1 on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart with Tornado. The set sold just under 113,000 copies to come in second on the Billboard 200 tally as well. Tornado’s first-week numbers more than doubles the band’s opening week with their last album, The Reason Why. Tornado features Little Big Town’s #1 hit “Pontoon,” which has been certified platinum.

Natalie Hemby and Luke Laird are the hit songwriters behind “Pontoon,” and they’re two of the new songwriting pals Little Big Town gained while making Tornado.

Band member Jimi Westbrook tells ABC News Radio, “I think from the very start of this record, the writing process even, just wanting to shake it up for ourselves and do something different, and we made some great new friends through the process.”

Natalie actually had a hand in writing a good chunk of Tornado, which might earn her honorary Little Big Town member status.  “We ended up having like five songs of hers either that we wrote or she pitched to us on this record,” Jimi says of Natalie’s contribution. “So, it was really cool. She’s amazing!”

Little Big Town will celebrate their #1 hit “Pontoon” with a party in Nashville Friday.
