The CMA Awards nominations were announced Wednesday morning in New York City, with the nominees in the biggest categories announced live on ABC’s Good Morning AmericaJason Aldean is up for three CMA Awards this year including Entertainer of the Year. After announcing the nominees on GMA Wednesday morning, Jason admits hearing his name called out never gets old.

“I guess my thing is you just never know when these things are going to come to an end, so I think you’ve got to enjoy it,” Jason says. “Obviously, each year that you get a nomination, it makes you feel good obviously to get that recognition from the industry, and the people that do vote.”

Jason was also excited to see his “Don’t You Wanna Stay” duet partner Kelly Clarkson get a surprise nod for Female Vocalist of the Year.  He says, “For them to kind of recognize her, I thought was unexpected, but I thought it was very well deserved.”  Jason planned to congratulate Kelly on the nomination via text once the announcements were over.

Luke Bryan helped Jason Aldean announce the nominees Wednesday, and he picked up two CMA nominations of his own, including Album of the Year for tailgates & tanlines and Male Vocalist of the Year. When asked which trophy he’d most like to take home, Luke couldn’t choose one.  He says, “Maybe in a couple weeks I can figure out which one is more important, but right now I’m smiling big on both of ’em. “

Luke is nominated against his pal Jason Aldean in the Male Vocalist category this year, but he insists there’s no competition between them to take it home.  “We just enjoy being in this business,” Luke explains. “We’ve been touring together, and we enjoy being on that stage in front of all the fans. Anything else after that is a huge bonus.”
