SANFORD–A Sanford man is spending the holiday in jail on heroin trafficking charges.  According to reports from Cpt. Jeff Johnson of the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, the city/county drug unit, after several weeks of surveillance, attempted to stop a suspect believed to be transporting heroin.  This led to a high speed chase into the city limits.  Officers used a “pit maneuver” in an attempt to stop the suspect, which resulted in the suspect being forced off the road on Cameron Drive.  County vehicles received minor damages.  The suspect had in his possession 20 packets of heroin on his person.  Further investigation led to a room at the Budget Inn on 15-501 where an additional 13 packs of heroin were found in his room.  Alex Gregory Aguilar, 29 of 606 Nixon Drive was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin by possession, traffic heroin by transportation, possession with intent to sell heroin, maintaining a vehicle to store drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony speeding to elude arrest.  Other minor traffic violations may be added.  He was jailed on a $225,000 bail.
