Little Big Town has signed on as one of the performers for the T.J. Martell Foundation’s 37th Annual New York Honors Gala coming up October 23.  Kenny Chesney‘s “You and Tequila” collaborator Grace Potter is also on the bill, and Little Big Town is thrilled out help out such a great cause.  The T.J. Martell Foundation is a big fundraiser for cancer, leukemia and AIDS research.

“First of all, we love T.J. Martell, and we will do anything that they ask us to do that we are able to,” says the band’s Kimberly Schlapman.  “We so believe in their cause, and we’ve all been touched by cancer and other diseases in our families, and anything, any very little thing we can do to help them, we will.”

Kimberly admits the band is a little nervous about performing in front of the star-studded crowd.  Music moguls Russell Simmons and Randy Jackson of American Idol fame are among the honorees, but this won’t be Little Big Town’s first meeting with Russell Simmons.

The band was actually on an elevator in a department store in Los Angeles with Russell a few years ago.  He was talking into his Bluetooth head set during the ride, but Kimberly didn’t see it.  So, when Russell started talking out loud, Kimberly answered him back.

Her band mate Karen Fairchild explains, “She was like, ‘Oh, I’m sorry.  Were you talking to me?’  And he was like, ‘No, shhh. And my wife will not like that.'”

Little Big Town says Russell was very funny and charming about it all, and they can’t wait to tell him that story in person.

Little Big Town’s new album, Tornado, is in stores September 11 featuring their biggest chart hit to date, “Pontoon.”
