(GOLIAD, Texas) — A pick-up truck with an extended cab that carried 23 people slammed into two trees after leaving the road near the town of Berclair in Goliad County, Texas, Sunday evening, killing at least 12 people with 11 injured.
Based on the mode of travel, there was speculation that the Ford F-250 might have been carrying illegal immigrants.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said that all 11 victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver, who was ejected from the vehicle, survived the crash and was brought to one of several area hospitals with others for treatment.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Berclair is about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.
