Hunter Hayes has scored his first gold single, for “Wanted.” The second single from his self-titled debut album has been downloaded 500,000 times now, and Hunter is grateful his fans have laid down their money for the song in this digital age. Even though he’s only 20 years old, Hunter remembers having to go to Walmart to buy a physical album to get the one song he wanted.
“Now we’re in the iTunes age and sort of in the YouTube age of, you can just look up a song and listen to it however many times you want, which is awesome,” Hunter tells ABC News Radio. “‘Wanted’ the video is actually close to four million views, which is huge to me.”
Hunter admits he’s always wanted a gold record plaque, and he plans to hang it up on the wall in his studio on Music Row, the Beat Cave.
He says, “It’s a huge milestone for me. It’s definitely sort of one of those ‘You know you’re doing something right when’ kind of moments.”
Hunter will get another big career boost when he opens for Carrie Underwood this fall on the Blown Away tour. That trek opens September 14 in Manchester, NH.
