Country legend Loretta Lynn brought actress Zooey Deschanel onstage with her at the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Thursday night to make a big announcement. Zooey has signed on to portray Loretta in an upcoming Broadway musical based on Loretta’s life. After making the announcement, Loretta and Zooey sang Loretta’s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” together. The Grand Ole Opry tweeteda picture of them together onstage.
The Broadway musical, Coal Miner’s Daughter, is now in development, and fans can log on to CoalMinersDaughterBroadway.com to sign up for updates on the show’s progress.
Zooey Deschanel currently stars in the hit Fox comedy New Girl and has been nominated for a Grammy as one-half of the indie duo She & Him.
Sissy Spacek won the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Loretta in the 1980 film Coal Miner’s Daughter. Sissy sang onstage with Loretta at the Opry too when she was preparing for the film role.
