Thompson Square was named ACM Duo of the Year last month in Las Vegas, but they still haven’t received the trophy. The ACMs mail the actual award to the winners after the ceremony, and Thompson Square’s Keifer and Shawna Thompson are hoping they each get a trophy of their own.
Keifer jokes with ABC News Radio, “I would like to think that they wouldn’t be that cheap to give one.”
The couple is still deciding on where they’ll put their ACM Awards though. Keifer says, “I think the mantle might be a nice place. So, we’ll have to build a fireplace.”
The reality that they’ve won the ACM hasn’t really sunk in yet though. They were actually presented with the trophy at a concert in Las Vegas the night before the awards ceremony.
“We didn’t get to go through the process like everyone else usually does,” Keifer says of not getting to accept the award on camera. “So, that might be why it doesn’t seem quite real.”
Thompson Square’s success in the past two years hasn’t felt quite real to Keifer and Shawna either. They’ve dreamed of becoming country stars for years now, and they admit it’s a little odd now that it’s happened.
“Keifer compared it to when we got married, and you expect there to be a special feeling or something when you get married,” Shawna explains. “Like, we would look at each other, like, every month after we got married. ‘Do you feel married yet?’ And then nothing really changes.”
There’s no doubt Thompson Square is keeping too busy to really take in their success these days. They’re currently on the road with Lady Antebellum‘s Own the Night tour with a run of shows through Florida coming up this weekend.
