Lee Ann Womack is putting aside work on her new album Wednesday to head to Washington, D.C. No, she’s not entering politics, but Lee Ann is rubbing shoulders with some of the nation’s power players.
Lee Ann is slated to sing at the Centennial First Ladies Luncheon at the Washington Hilton. The wife of Congressman Green of Texas asked Lee Ann to sing for the crowd, which will include the collected spouses of Congress, the Supreme Court, President’s Cabinet and the Vice President. The event honors first lady Michelle Obama.
On Tuesday night, Lee Ann was at the White House to attend the Gershwin Prize ceremony honoring legendary songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Lee Ann is a big fan of their work, but she has someone in mind for next year’s Gershwin Prize. She says it’s her “personal mission to see Willie Nelson receive this award.”
