Keifer and Shawna Thompson of Thompson Square met while both competing in a talent competition in Nashville just days after they moved to town in 1996. The couple had an instant connection and tied the knot three years later, but they didn’t actually sing together until their honeymoon.
Keifer and Shawna were on a cruise and some people they met there convinced them to get up and sing karaoke together. Shawna tells the Palm Beach Post, “We got up there and did Clint Black and Wynonna’s A Bad Goodbye, and that was our first duet experience.”
Keifer and Shawna liked what they heard when their voices combined.
“We both have a lot of country-rock influence but Shawna’s voice is more traditional-sounding,” Keifer explains. “I’ve got a little grit in my throat. My rough voice combined with her smooth voice just makes a unique sound.”
Thompson Square’s vocal blend can be heard on their new single, “Glass,” now climbing the country charts.
