Kip Moore‘s debut album, Up All Night, bows at #6 on the Billboard 200 chart and #3 on the Country Albums tally too this week. Fans have certainly latched on to Kip’s gritty vocal style as heard on his debut hit “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck,” but Kip had a scare earlier this year when he thought he may never sing again.
He was actually singing when he heard one of his vocal cords pop and immediately lost his voice. Kip says it’s similar to what has happened to both Keith Urban and pop star Adele recently.
“It was just air coming out. I had to be quiet, and I couldn’t say a word for like two-and-a-half weeks,” Kip tells ABC News Radio. “And when I first came back and starting singing, my voice was completely different, and I was really worried that it was gone.”
Kip’s voice got back to normal in about two weeks, but he still hasn’t taken time out to learn how to prevent it from happening again.
Kip explains, “I know that sounds crazy. I was supposed to go back and learn how to breathe and warm up, and I’ve just yet to go back. But that is on my list to do.”
Kip’s schedule has been extremely hectic between promoting his new album, Up All Night, and touring with Billy Currington. While Kip knows that staying away from alcohol is good for his voice, he hasn’t exactly abstained from it lately.
He says with a laugh, “I’ve tried to keep off the tequila before the shows and beer and stuff, but I still find myself reaching for one a little bit.”
